SEC provides end-to-end solutions from power and lighting, to low voltage systems. With these qualifications and over $50 million in bonding capability, Southern Electric Company continues to be a strong commercial electrical provider in the metro-Atlanta area. SEC was founded in 1997 by Jalil Poorak. After immigrating to the United States from Iran, Mr. Poorak attended Southern Polytechnic State University and graduated in 1983 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. For over twenty years, Mr. Poorak worked daily to ensure the growth and success of SEC.
Following his passing in 2018, the Poorak family maintained full ownership and operation of SEC. His oldest daughter, Mahsa Poorak, serves as Chief Executive Officer and General Counsel. Under her leadership, gross revenues for the company doubled. The company invests heavily in SEC employees and retention is strong. Mahsa is heavily involved in the Atlanta construction community, serving on the Board of Directors for the Atlanta Chapter of the Independent Electrical Contractors Association (IEC). At IEC, Mahsa also serves as chair of the Governmental Affairs Committee, vice-chair of the Education Committee, and chairs a focus group making changes to the apprenticeship program. Mahsa and the Poorak family strive to maintain her father’s legacy by ensuring the success of SEC.
